Bohol
The headline inflation rate (IR) in Bohol increased to 8.3 percent in September 2022 from 8.0 percent in August 2022. This is the highest so far since January 2019. Inflation in September 2021 was lower at 3.0 percent. The average inflation for the first nine months of the year stood at 5.5 percent. (Table A and Figure 1)
In comparison to national and regional figures, Bohol’s IR in September is higher by 1.4 percentage points than the national IR and by 0.2 than the regional IR.
The increase in the province’s inflation was mainly brought about by the higher annual increase in the index for Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages at 8.0 percent and Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco at 8.0 percent. Also contributing to the uptrend in the overall inflation during the period were the increments in the indices of the following commodities:
Clothing and Footwear at 4.7 percent;
Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance at 4.3 percent;
Health at 2.3 percent; and
Personal Care, Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 2.3 percent.
The commodity groups Restaurants and Accommodation Services and Financial Services either retained their previous month’s inflation rates or had zero percent annual growths.
Though with double-digit inflation rates, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 11.7 and Transport at 10.9 had lower annual upticks during the month.
For food index, it increased to 8.3 percent in September 2022, from 7.7 percent in the previous month. In September 2021, food index had 2.0 percent inflation rate.
Double-digit growth rates were observed in Sugar, Confectionery and Desserts at 50.1; Oils and Fats at 22.5; and Flour, Bread and Other Bakery Products, Pasta Products, and Other Cereals at 12.0 percent. The following food groups also had higher annual increments during the month in comparison with the previous month:
Cereals and Cereal Products increased from 5.9 percent to 7.2 percent;
Cereals from 5.0 to 6.4 percent;
Rice from 5.0 to 6.3 percent;
Corn from 7.3 to 8.7 percent;
Meat and Other Parts of Slaughtered Land Animals from 5.3 to 8.1;
Vegetables, Tubers, Cooking Bananas, Pulses from -1.7 to 2.3; and
Ready-Made Food and Other Food Products N.E.C. from 1.5 to 3.0 percent.
