A. Quantity

1. Quantity of domestic trade decreased

The total number of domestic trades in the second quarter of 2022 was registered at 1.2 million tons. This represents an annual decrease of -24.8 percent. In the first quarter of 2022, it also declined by -75.4 percent. Meanwhile, in the same quarter of 2021, the annual increase was recorded at 187.1 percent. Majority (99.9%) of the commodities were traded through water (coastwise), while the rest were traded through air. (Figure 1 and Table A)

 

B. Central Visayas led in terms of quantity of traded commodities

By region, Central Visayas (Region VII) recorded the highest quantity of traded commodities with 1.2 million tons or 30.7 percent share of the total in the second quarter of 2022. This was followed by Western Visayas (Region VI) with a quantity of 0.6 million tons (14.8%), and National Capital Region (NCR) with 0.5 million tons (11.7%). (Figure 2 and Table 2)

 

B. Value

1. Value of domestic trade fall

Domestic trade value is the outflow value which refers to the value of commodities that goes out from a specified region/province to another region/province.

The total value of domestic trade in the second quarter of 2022 amounted to PhP47.46 billion. This indicates an annual decrease of -13.5 percent from the PhP54.88 billion value of domestic trade in the same period of 2021.

By mode of transport, the total value of traded commodities through water accounted for majority (99.9) of the total commodities that flow within the region, while the remaining were traded through air. (Figure 3 and Table 2)

 

2. Central Visayas recorded the highest value of traded commodities

Among the regions, Central Visayas (Region VII) ranked first with of PhP47.46 billion value of traded commodities or 25.0 percent share of the total traded commodities in the second quarter of 2022. This was followed by Western Visayas (Region VI) with PhP35.14 billion (18.5%) traded commodities and Eastern Visayas (Region VIII) with PhP31.95 billion (16.8%). (Figure 4 and Table 2)

 

3. Inflow Value

Inflow refers to the value of commodities that come into a specified region/province from other regions/provinces.

Central Visayas posted an inflow value of domestic trade at PhP46.52 billion or 24.5 percent of the Philippines’ total inflow value. This indicates an annual decrease of –22.8 percent as compared to the PhP60.26 billion inflow value in the second quarter of 2021.

By mode of transport, the total inflow value of traded commodities through water accounted for almost all the total inflows in the region.  (Figure 5 and Table 3)

 

4. Central Visayas recorded a positive trade balance

The trade balance is the difference between the outflow value and inflow value.

Central Visayas recorded a favorable traded balance of PhP0.90 billion in the second quarter of 2022 while the recorded trade balance in the first quarter of 2022 at –PhP8.05 billion.  Moreover, the trade balance in the second quarter of the previous year was recorded at -PhP5.38 billion.  (Figure 6 and Table 3)
