Central Visayas is the fastest-growing among regional economies in the country with 7.3 percent growth in 2023

 

The economy of Central Visayas grew by 7.3 percent in 2023, the fastest among all regions in the country during the period. This was estimated at PhP 1.38 trillion from PhP 1.29 trillion in 2022 (Figure 1). The main contributors to the 2023 growth were: Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 5.5 percent growth; Transportation and storage, 24.9 percent growth; and Accommodation and food service activities, 32.3 percent growth.

The economy of Central Visayas recorded a 7.6 percent growth in 2022 from a growth of 5.4 percent in 2021. The main contributors to the 2022 growth were: Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 1.7 percentage points; Transportation and storage with 1.0 percentage point; and Accommodation and food service activities with 0.9 percentage point.

Philippine Statistics Authority Region 7 (PSA 7) Regional Director Ariel E. Florendo announced that the economy of Central Visayas Region posted a growth of 5.4 percent in 2021 from a decline of -9.5 percent in 2020. This was reported during the release of the 2021 Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and Gross Regional Domestic Expenditure (GRDE) of Central Visayas at a news conference on 28 April 2022 at Bai Hotel, Mandaue City.

Central Visayas’ economy rebounds by 5.4 percent in 2021

 

The economy of Central Visayas recorded a 5.4 percent growth in 2021 compared with the contraction of 9.5 percent in 2020. This was valued at 1.20 trillion pesos in 2021 from 1.13 trillion pesos in 2020 (Figure 1). The main contributors to the 2021 growth were: Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 6.1 percent growth rate; Manufacturing with 4.0 percent growth rate; and Professional and Business Services with 8.9 percent growth rate. PSA 7 prepares for the 2020 RAP News Conference

 

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is set to release the 2020 Regional Accounts of the Philippines on 29 April 2021 (Thursday) at 10:00 AM through a simultaneous virtual press conference for all the different PSA Regional Statistical Services Offices. As part of the preparation, Central Visayas together with other sixteen (16) Regions participated in the 2020 Regional Accounts of the Philippines (RAP): Virtual Compilation and Finalization Workshop on 12 to 16 and 19 to 23 April 2021. Present during the said workshop were Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) of Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD), Supervising Statistical Specialist, two (2) Technical Support Staff, and two (2) Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) COSWs.
Central Visayas Economic Performance declines by 9.9 percent in 2020

 

Philippine Statistics Authority Region 7 (PSA 7) Regional Director Ariel Florendo said that the economic performance of Central Visayas declined by 9.9 percent in 2020. This was reported on the release of the 2020 Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and Gross Regional Domestic Expenditure (GRDE) of Central Visayas at a news conference held by PSA 7 on 29 April 2021. Among the major industries, Services accounted 68.0 percent of the region’s total GRDP in 2020, followed by Industry with 24.6 percent and Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (AFF) with 7.4 percent
Central Visayas’ economy declines by 9.9 percent in 2020

 

The economy of Central Visayas declined by 9.9 percent in 2020 compared with the 6.2 percent growth recorded in 2019. The main contributors to the decline were Construction with 36.4 percent followed by Manufacturing with 12.9; and Transportation and Storage with 37.4 percent.
