The total cattle production of Central Visayas from October to December 2021 was estimated at 4,852 metric tons, liveweight. This was -6.8 percent lower than the previous year’s same quarter production of 5,207 metric tons. (Figures 1, 2 and Table 1)
Among all regions, CALABARZON reported the highest cattle production at 10,410 metric tons, liveweight followed by Northern Mindanao and Ilocos Region with 8,660 and 6,855 metric tons, liveweight, respectively. The other top producing regions were Western Visayas, 5,277 metric tons, and Central Luzon, 4,912 metric tons. These five regions shared 51.7 percent to the country’s total cattle production. (Fig. 3 and Table 1)
Meanwhile, Central Visayas ranked the 6th producer of cattle during the quarter. On the other hand, Caraga Region accounted with the lowest production of 303 metric tons, liveweight. (Figure 3 and Table 1)
In terms of production, the region’s percent share was 6.9 percent to the country’s total cattle production. (Table 1)
In terms of inventory, Central Visayas recorded the highest cattle population with 327,792 heads or 12.6 percent share. This comprised of 325,962 heads or 99.4 percent from Backyard farm and 1,830 heads or 0.6 percent from Commercial farm. This was followed by CALABARZON with 296,282 heads, 10.0 percent share and Western Visayas with 250,509 heads, 9.7 percent share. (Figure 4,5 and Table 2).

This Cattle Situation Report presents the cattle industry in terms of volume of production and inventory by farm type. The report is prepared to serve as a ready reference for PSA’s various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly; that is, every February, May, August, and November.
Concepts and Definitions
Volume of production refers to the volume of locally-raised cattle disposed for slaughter including those which were shipped out to other regions/provinces for slaughter. This is expressed in metric tons, liveweight.
Inventory refers to the actual number of cattle present in the farm as of a specific reference date.
