The total chicken production of Central Visayas from January to March 2021 was estimated at 17.50 thousand metric tons, liveweight. This was -44.2 percent lower than the previous year’s same quarter production of 31.37 thousand metric tons. (Fig. 1 & Fig. 2 and Table 1)

 

Among the regions, Central Luzon was the top producer of chicken during the quarter with 131.94 thousand metric tons, liveweight. This was followed by CALABARZON with 73.95 thousand metric tons, liveweight, and Northern Mindanao with 38.33 thousand metric tons, liveweight. These three regions shared 60.7 percent to the country’s total chicken production.  (Figure 1 and Table 1)

 

In terms of total production, Central Luzon accounted the highest percent share of 32.8 while the region’s percent share was reported at 4.3 percent to the country’s total chicken production. (Fig.3 and Table 1)

 

As of 01 April 2021, Central Visayas’ total chicken inventory was estimated at 19.13 million birds which was higher by 0.6 percent from the 16.63 million birds in the same period of 2020. (Figure 4 and Table 2)

Meanwhile, by chicken type, Native/Improved Chicken of the region posted highest inventory of 8.32 million birds followed by Broiler and Layer Chicken at 6.87 and 3.94 million birds, respectively. (Figure 4 and Table 2)

TECHNICAL NOTES

This Swine Situation Report presents the swine industry in terms of volume of production and inventory by farm type. The report is prepared to serve as a ready reference for PSA’s various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly; that is, every February, May, August, and November.

Concepts and Definitions

Volume of production refers to the volume of locally-raised hog disposed for slaughter including those which were shipped out to other regions/provinces for slaughter. This is expressed in metric tons, liveweight.

Inventory refers to the actual number of swine present in the farm as of a specific reference date. For this report, the inventory of swine is as of 01 April 2021.
