Civil Registration takes center stage every February of the year pursuant to Proclamation No. 682 issued by then President Corazon C. Aquino on January 28, 1991. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) as the agency mandated to carry out the provisions of Act No. 3753 will spearhead this month-long celebration together with the Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) in all cities and municipalities in the country as the celebration unfolds on February 2022. It is aimed to promote and advance public awareness and consciousness on the importance of Civil Registration in the lives of every Filipino. This will further enhance nationwide awareness and appreciation of the legal, administrative and statistical values of civil registry documents.
February 2022 Civil Registration Month celebration marked the 32nd, embracing the theme: “Improving Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Implementation Strategies through Digital Transformation”. With this year’s theme, emphasis on carrying out the mandates of Civil Registration and providing the much needed vital statistics through digital means amidst this pandemic is being noted.
The Office of the Civil Registrar General (OCRG) has issued a memorandum circular to this effect. Meanwhile, activities highlighting the month-long celebration are in place following the new normal.
For the province of Siquijor, various activities were organized for the month-long celebration such as provincial conference with the Municipal Civil Registrars to discuss matters concerning Civil Registration services, Data Dissemination Forum for vital statistics, streamers bannering this year’s theme will also be displayed province wide at the respective LCROs and at the provincial office. Other activities like lectures regarding “Civil Registration System of the Philippines” will be conducted the new normal way following the minimum health protocols. Also, included in the list is an environment-related activity.
