The Philippine Statistics Authority, Siquijor Provincial Statistical Office (PSA Siquijor-PSO) kickstarted the institutional registration and issuance of electronic Philippine Identification (ePhilID) for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) on 01 March 2023 in elementary and secondary schools both in private and public educational institutions in the province. In partnership with the Department of Education, Division of Siquijor, this initiative seeks to capture potential registrants among members of the academe, students, pupils, and family members.

This strategy aimed to provide convenience for learners, teachers, and parents to be registered within school premises.

In the registration process, children five (5) years old and over presented their supporting documents to validate their demographic information. This was followed by the capturing of their biometric information such as iris scan, fingerprints, and front-facing photograph.

The PhilID and ePhilID, which offer an efficient means to present legitimate proof of identification and age, can be used to open junior bank accounts for savings, apply for scholarships and other student-aid programs, be admitted to schools, and apply for other services, making them more accessible to young people.

The PhilSys Registration Team (PRT) of Siquijor PSO continuously coordinated with school principals to enable registration with the assistance of their classroom advisers. As a result, registration of the learners has been realized, taking into account the significance of PhilSys as we move toward a digital economy.

For the latest information on PhilSys, visit the official PhilSys website www.philsys.gov.ph, or Facebook page www.facebook.com/PSAPhilSysOfficial.
