The 32nd Civil Registration Month was a month-long celebration highlighted with various activities; mangrove planting was identified to be one of those. This was in collaboration with the Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) in this province.
Barangay Caticugan marine sanctuary was pointed out where this activity would be possible and designated area for mangrove planting in the Municipality of Siquijor. The activity will be able to help and contribute in the preservation of the environment as mangroves provide essential habitat for thousands of species thus stabilizing shorelines, preventing erosion and protecting the land, the people who live from waves and storms.
An orientation was conducted by Agricultural Technician Juvelyn A. Maghanoy from the Local Government Unit of Siquijor and introduced to the group the value and importance of mangroves in the ecosystem, part of it is a demonstration on how to properly sow a mangrove propagule or plant a mangrove seedling.
The activity was participated in by PSA, Siquijor personnel and the Local Civil Registrars in the province together with their staff. Also, in attendance were personnel from LGU-Siquijor who were assigned at the sanctuary. A total of 60 mangrove seedlings were being sown as of this date.
This forms part of the continuing thrust of the Office to get involved and active in promoting ecological awareness aside from delivering quality Civil Registration services.
