With the ongoing implementation of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), the PhilSys registration team of the province of Negros Oriental already registered 999,920 Negrosanons as of December 31, 2022, which is equivalent to 70% of the total population of the province based on the 2020 Census on Population and Housing (CPH). Out of the abovementioned number of registered individuals, 135,502 registrants already received their printable electronic PhilSys IDs (e-PhilIDs). The PSA, the agency tasked to carry out the conduct of Step 2 Registration and Step 3 Delivery of printable e-PhilID, is exerting every effort to make sure that each Filipino citizen and resident alien will be able to register and receive their PhilID.
In accordance with Republic Act 11055 also known as the Philippine Identification System Act of 2018, the PSA, being the primary implementing agency, kicked off the implementation of the Step 2 Registration in November of 2020. In October of 2022, almost two years following the roll-out of the Step 2 Registration, the Step 3 Delivery and Issuance of printable electronic PhilSys IDs (e-PhilIDs) was also implemented.
The objective of RA 11055 or PhilSys is to establish a single national identification system that aims to provide a valid proof of identity for all Filipino citizens and resident aliens in the Philippines. In the conduct of Step 2 Registration, the demographic data and biometric information of the registrants were taken, to be used in the production of the PhilID. After The personalization and printing of the PhilID, this will be due for distribution in various forms, such as the PhilID cards, printable e-PhilIDs, and downloadable e-PhilIDs.
The conduct of PhilSys Step 2 Registration and Step 3 Delivery in Negros Oriental are expected to continue in the year 2023. PSA-Negros Oriental deployed personnel in 28 PhilSys registration centers established in every municipality in the province to register the remaining unregistered population and make sure each registered individual will receive the PhilID and enjoy the advantages and benefits offered by PhilSys.
