This April and May the Philippine Statistics Authority, the primary statistical arm of the government, is conducting three nationwide surveys. Two of these surveys the 2017 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) with Survey of Information Communication Technology (SICT); and the 2018 Updating of List of Establishments or ULE are both aimed at business establishments. While the 2018 Geotagging of Building Structures is for all building structures.
Geotagging is the process of creating vector data by marking building structures as points in the digitized maps. With the use of new technology PSA aims to come up with accurate and reliable maps for use in all its census and survey operations. Digitized maps will be used in the upcoming 2020 Census of Population and Households.
Map data collectors will be visiting every building and with the use of GIS (Global Information System) technology, each building will be marked.
It is the vision of PSA that in the very near future each building, each area in the digitized map when clicked in your computer will reveal its unique story or data.
The 2018 ULE is conducted in order to update the Statistical Business Register which will be used for PSA’s establishment and enterprise based surveys and census. Again using new technology applications and GIS the survey asks about the characteristics of the business establishment.
This May, ASPBI questionnaires will be distributed to 281 sample business establishments and 78 questionnaires for SICT samples for the whole province. Detailed information regarding the characteristics of these establishments will be asked. Data from this survey will generate information on the levels, trends, structure and performance of economic activities of businesses in the formal sector.
This will be used by both government and private sectors in the formulation of plans and policies.
