The total cattle production of Central Visayas from July to September 2022 was estimated at 5.63 thousand metric tons, liveweight. This was 30.6 percent higher than the previous year’s same quarter production of 4.31 thousand metric tons. It increased annually from 3.7 percent in 2021 to 30.6 percent growth rate in 2022. (Fig. 1 & Fig. 2 and Table 1)

 

Among all regions, Central Visayas ranked the 2nd producer of cattle during the quarter. Northern Mindanao accounted the highest production with 8.56 thousand metric tons, liveweight during the quarter. Among the top five producing regions were Ilocos Region, Western Visayas and SOCCSKSARGEN with 5.266 thousand metric tons, liveweight, 4.55 thousand metric tons, liveweight and 3.80 thousand metric tons, liveweight, respectively. Meanwhile, Eastern Visayas and Caraga regions accounted with the lowest production of 0.69 and 0.26 thousand metric tons, liveweight, respectively. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

 

In terms of percent share, Northern Mindanao was the major contributor with 16.3 percent to the country’s total cattle production. The region’s percent share was 10.7 percent. Meanwhile, Caraga Region shared the lowest with 0.5 percent. (Fig 3 and Table 1)

 

Relative to their levels in the same quarter of 2021, six regions exhibited improvements in production during the quarter. Central Visayas posted the highest increase of 1.32 thousand metric tons, liveweight from 4.31 thousand metric tons, liveweight in the same quarter of the previous year to 5.63 metric tons, liveweight this third quarter of 2022. (Table 1)

 

As of 30 September 2022, the region’s total cattle inventory posted at 337,320 heads. Along with Central Visayas, CALABARZON and Ilocos Region reported with the highest cattle inventory during the quarter with 253, 269 heads and 248, 559 heads, respectively. These three top regions comprised a total percent share of 32.5 percent of that country’s total cattle inventory.

Of the region’s total cattle inventory, smallhold farms accounted for 99.5 percent, while the remaining comprised the semi-commercial farms and commercial farms with corresponding shares of 0.2 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively. (Figure 5)
